OXYDENDRON ARBOREUM

As prescribed by the physician.

• Oxydendron arboreum is a rare and valuable homoeopathic medicine prepared from the fresh leaves of the Oxydendron arboreum, commonly known as Sourwood or Sorrel-tree, belonging to the Ericaceae family. This medicine is particularly known for its ability to relieve severe dropsical conditions, including ascites and anasarca, especially when other medicines fail. Its clinical importance lies in its use in post-infectious dropsy, especially following measles, and cases marked by suppressed urine, difficulty breathing, and general fluid retention. Though unproved, its dramatic clinical effects have given it an important place in homoeopathic therapeutics for advanced edematous states. Common Name English: Sourwood, Sorrel-tree, Elk-tree SBL’s Oxydendron arboreum can be helpful in the following conditions: Dropsy and General Edema • Oxydendron arboreum is indicated in general dropsy with both ascites (abdominal fluid) and anasarca (general body swelling). • Particularly in cases where dropsy follows an acute infection, such as measles. • Used successfully when urine is nearly suppressed, but without significant albuminuria. • Relieves breathlessness, especially when the patient cannot lie down and must sit upright with legs elevated. • Restores urinary function and supports gradual absorption of fluid from tissues. Urinary Complaints • Improves scanty or suppressed urine, even in chronic and severe cases. • Stimulates renal elimination, which contributes to the resolution of edema. • Especially valuable when other diuretics fail, including well-selected medicines. Constitutional and Post-Infectious Recovery • Oxydendron arboreum is helpful for dropsical states following cold treatments during fevers or infectious diseases such as measles. • Marked improvement in appetite, sleep, and general strength as swelling reduces. • Supports gradual recovery without tapping, even in severe ascitic distension.
