SPIGELIA (S.MARILANDICA)

As prescribed by the physician.

• Spigelia marilandica is a lesser-used but notable homoeopathic medicine prepared from the tincture of the root of the Pink-root plant, also known as Worm-grass. Belonging to the Loganiaceae family, it carries a strong action on the nervous system and mind. While its primary use has historically been in herbal worm medicines, homoeopathically it shows a unique sphere of action—especially in acute mental states and right-sided eye issues. It is particularly suited to cases showing sudden, wild mental excitement, disturbances of eye coordination (such as strabismus of the right eye), and trembling weakness with heat and restlessness. Spigelia marilandica is best considered in intense, short-lived states. Common Names English: Pink-root, Worm-grass SBL’s Spigelia marilandica can be helpful in the following conditions: Mental & Emotional Complaints Aids in treating sudden and complete mental derangement—fits of laughing and crying, wild talk, and erratic behavior. Helps manage marked distortion of facial expression, similar to effects seen in Stramonium. Supports those experiencing restlessness, running, skipping, and inability to sit still. Strabismus Useful in strabismus (crossed eyes), especially right-sided. Aids in relieving wild, fixed, or staring expression with dilated pupils. Helps with pain around the eyes and stiffness in eyelids. Supports coordination issues by addressing involuntary, irregular movements of the eye muscles. Flushed Face Aids in reducing swelling around the eyes and face. Useful in cases with a flushed, heated facial appearance. Supports tongue steadiness when pointed and tremulous. Irregular Pulse Helps regulate a fast or irregular pulse. Useful in treating sensations of inner agitation with outward signs of heat and exhaustion. Nervous Trembling & Drowsiness Aids in managing sudden trembling on attempting to stand, followed by exhaustion. Supports feverish states with hot, dry skin. Helps reduce general drowsiness and sluggishness after mental excitement.
