STRAMONIUM

As prescribed by the physician.

• Stramonium (Thorn-apple), a powerful and deep-acting homoeopathic medicine from Solanaceć family, known for its profound effects on the mind and nervous system, particularly in cases where delirium, hallucinations, spasmodic movements, and emotional extremes are present. The medicine acts strongly on the brain, with secondary influence over the eyes, throat, and skin, often indicated in states of intense fear, mania, and suppressed eruptions. It is especially suited to individuals experiencing violent mental or physical symptoms without corresponding pain, often with a marked absence of muscular control and strong fear of darkness or solitude. SBL’s Stramonium can be helpful in the following conditions: Mental & Emotional Disturbances Indicated in cases of delirium tremens, mania, hallucinations, and emotional instability with rapid alternations between joy and sadness. Suited to people who are loquacious, garrulous, and exhibit behaviors such as laughing, praying, swearing, rhyming, or even talking with imaginary beings. Strong fear of being alone or in the dark, with a need for constant light and company. Exhibits religious delusions, identity confusion (believing a body part is missing or oneself to be double or extremely tall). Used in puerperal mania, particularly where loquacity and inappropriate behavior appear post-delivery. Gastric Troubles Stramonium helps in managing loss of taste, where food may seem like sand or straw. It aids in relieving nausea and vomiting, often of sour or greenish mucus, and helps in burning or pressing stomach pain. Abdominal bloating and tenderness, and aids in managing tearing or cramping pains around the navel, sometimes of a hysterical nature with swelling of inguinal (groin) glands. Constipation with inuseful urging, and aids in controlling foul, loose stools passed unconsciously—especially in mentally disturbed states. Neurological & Muscular Conditions Characterized by spasmodic movements, graceful or jerky motions, and chorea with constantly shifting muscle groups. Useful in cases of Parkinsonism, trembling, staggering gait, and twitching tendons. In convulsions, particularly post-scarlatina or during fever, with associated delirium and twitching. Head & Sensory Disturbances Helps in boring frontal headaches especially around 9 a.m., worsening until noon, often accompanied by visual disturbances. Associated with auditory hallucinations, and hypersensitivity to visual stimuli—particularly glittering objects or water, which can trigger spasms. The patient may frequently raise the head from the pillow due to restlessness. Marked intoxicated or staggering sensation, especially worse in darkness; may fall backward or to the left. Accompanied by clouded vision, red face, colicky pain, or diarrhea. Sensation of stupefaction, with temporary loss of vision and hearing, convulsive head movements, and a distressing feeling of lightness or emptiness in the head. Headaches may cause giddiness, clouded sight, incoherent speech, and are often relieved by rest; useful in cerebral anemia of the elderly. Eyes & Vision Eyes appear staring, wide open, with dilated pupils and a desire for light. Visual distortions include seeing small objects as large, all black, or experiencing hallucinations of grotesque shapes. Strabismus (crossed eyes) and feelings of parts of the body being swollen or distorted. Tightness of Chest & Dyspnea Stramonium helps in hoarseness, squeaky or lost voice, and aids in spasmodic, barking cough from laryngeal constriction, often without expectoration. Supports breathing issues like shortness of breath, suffocative episodes, asthma (worse at night), and dyspnea on waking, especially worsened by cold air. Aids in chest tightness, pressure (worse on speaking), muscle spasms, and a turning sensation in the chest, sometimes with red rash. Throat, Mouth & Speech Dry mouth with thick, sticky saliva and inability to swallow due to throat spasms. Stammering, chewing motions, and expressions like risus sardonicus (a fixed, grin-like expression). Aversion to water despite violent thirst. Urinary & Sexual Symptoms Marked urinary suppression, with empty bladder despite restlessness and internal urge. In males, increased sexual desire, often with indecent speech or actions. In females, indicated in metrorrhagia (abnormal bleeding) accompanied by mental symptoms like singing, praying, and mania Sleep & Fever Disturbed sleep with screaming or waking in fright, deep snoring, or being unable to sleep despite fatigue. In fever states: profuse sweating without relief, violent heat, and delirium. Suppressed Eruptions Shiny, reddened skin often linked with suppressed eruptions, especially in post-scarlatina cases where mental and neurological symptoms develop.
